Marjo Lips-Wiersma Lani Morris
Would your organisation benefit from learning the secret of improving
productivity in these challenging times?
If that is something that is (or perhaps should be) on your agenda? If
this rings bells, and the buck stops with you; then this is the SIBL event
that you have been waiting for. Numbers will be limited so RSVP today to
book your place.
The next SIBL event holds the key to improving productivity in very
practical ways and is applicable to all sectors. It follows on very
logically from Simon Hazeldine’s August workshop focusing on the
significance of employee engagement this chapter (event) gives the “how to”raise employee morale and increase productivity.
SIBL is delighted to welcome back Marjo and Lani from
New Zealand who last ran a very successful SIBL workshop in November 2008 at the Ineos Grangemouth refinery.
Marjo Lips-Wiersma is Professor of Management Studies at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand. She has spent the last 15 years understanding the theme of meaningful work in practical and empirical ways.
Lani Morris has over 20 years' experience of working as an independent
organisational behaviour practitioner with organisations in New Zealand,
Australia and the United Kingdom.
As a duo they have been researching for many years to discover the secret
of what really works in improving productivity. This theme is particularly
relevant in these challenging times. There will also be the opportunity to
purchase a copy of their latest cutting edge publication the “Map of
meaning” which has received glowing testimonials across the board in all sectors.
For directions to the Drumossie Hotel please visit Drumossie Hotel
Iain Scott
This is a not to be missed workshop which focuses on the "how to" in identifying new opportunities and change that will move your organisation forward.
In today's climate this is arguably the most important strategic topic for leaders from all sectors to be addressing. This is what you get paid for!
Iain Scott is one of the leading experts in the UK in what makes for enterprising behaviour and the commercialisation of good ideas in profits. He is a regular contributor to BBC programmes and author of the forthcoming book "The Reluctant Entrepreneur's Handbook".
Iain has created and successfully applied his Cognitive Business Therapy Process across all sectors including the third and public sectors.
In this highly interactive session Iain will show you how to change attitudes and behaviours throughout your organisation and create a bright future.
To find out more about Iain please visit www.cognitivebusinesstherapy.co.uk
We are grateful to Stephen Buchan for hosting the event at the Clydesdale Bank Plaza in Lothian Road, Edinburgh.
Please note that since numbers at the Clydesdale are strictly limited please book early -- like NOW. Please also take the opportunity to bring a "business friend" to this "not to be missed" event.
Simon Hazeldine
Simon is a highly respected international speaker and author (see www.simonhazeldine.com for further information).
His workshop takes a fresh approach to assessing effective leadership and will enable participants to take new ideas and a "bottom line" action plan back into their businesses. The workshop is designed to make a real difference for you in ensuring that your business achieves its potential as a high performance organisation.
Our thanks go once again to Richard Mayne who is hosting this event at the Westerwood Hotel in Cumbernauld. For directions to the hotel please click here Westerwood Hotel directions
Ian Woodall
SIBL is pleased to welcome back Ian Woodall.
Ian has received great acclaim in storytelling and demonstrating practical leadership eg ‘One hell of a storyteller’ (Times Herald-Record); ‘Funny, exciting, and truly inspirational’ (NHS Trust)
As the first rays of dawn crept across the Tibetan plateau Ian Woodall stepped on to the summit of Mount Everest and into history, one of a select few to have climbed the world’s highest mountain by both its south and north sides. During his first ascent from the south Ian’s team were trapped at 8 000 metres in the worst storm in Everest history which claimed the lives of five fellow climbers. After the trauma and tragedy of the storm Ian and his team nevertheless chose to try again, finally reaching the summit as the only ones left on the mountain.
Now, using the power of emotional storytelling, Ian brings the triumphs and tragedies of climbing Mount Everest directly to his SIBL audience in a funny, poignant and inspirational story, showing how the insights gained on the mountain can enhance everyone’s Personal Inspiration and Practical Leadership skills.
Ian was born in England, but then spent twenty-two years in South Africa, before returning to the UK. Between 1996 and 2007 Ian conceived, planned and led five expeditions to Mount Everest, reaching the summit on two occasions. Before embarking on his Everest expeditions Ian worked as a school teacher, a restaurant owner as well as serving as an officer in the British Army.
We are grateful to Alan Kelly and MacRoberts for hosting this event. For a detailed map please click here Macroberts and visit the contact us tab.
Places are available for guests if you know someone who would benefit from attending.
Frank Furness
Most organisations are seeking new customers and we are delighted to have Frank Furness as the keynote speaker presenting on this highly topical topic see www.frankfurness.com
Frank is London based but has been recognised as one of the top ten professional speakers in the USA. As can be seen from the attached Workshop Outline and biography Frank currently spends 70% of his time abroad working in forty Countries & has clients from Russia to Hong Kong, Dubai to Malaysia. Frank’s clients include the British Olympic Team, The Professional Cricketers Association, Sporting Champions and Sport England.
The workshop content is a blend of learning the basic best habits of successful people and also looking at what is new in terms of technology in sales. The outcome is an action plan that your organisation can implement immediately. The following is a typical testimonial of Frank’s workshops “You provided the group with a wealth of ideas, techniques and practices to achieve greatly improved sales and the group greatly enjoyed the humour”. If your organisation would benefit by moving to the next level of business then this is a “not to be missed” event!
We are equally delighted that the event is being hosted by Charles Edwards, Director of The Edinburgh Institute of Leadership and Management Practice at the University of Napier’s Craiglockhart campus. For further information regarding the Institute see www.napier.ac.uk/ei Directions and a map are included in the contact link. As you would expect the Institute has first class workshop facilities. Please note we have been requested to use the lower main car park which is by the main exit.
Dr David Hamilton
David is a highly rated international (Scottish) presenter and writer who takes a scientific approach to what makes things really work well for both individuals and organisations.
This workshop is based on his latest research and book which is being published next month. The session focuses on how morale, team performance and the bottom line can be affected by “mood contagion” in organisations. Positive (or negative) energies and moods can be picked up by brain cells known as “mirror neurons” and can spread throughout a team or an organisation very quickly with a corresponding effect on morale.
In this session you can learn how susceptible you may be to “emotional contagion” in the workplace and perhaps more importantly how you and your organisation can best manage this powerful influence on individual and team performance. It is only through recent research that this knowledge has become readily available. It is not surprising that so many organisations have either not recognised the significance of this phenomenon on the bottom line or have simply not known how to go about maintaining high morale and motivation. This is a “not to be missed” workshop that can make a real impact both on yourself as a leader and within your company.
We are very much obliged to Andrew Tomb, Plant Manager of Polimeri Europa UK Ltd, who has invited the group to the plant workshop facilities at Bo’ness Road, Grangemouth, FK3 9XE. A location map can be found at Polimeri directions Further directions will be mailed to attendees.
Ayd Instone presents a creativity workshop which could revitalise your business. Where are the new opportunities that could transform your business in a challenging climate? Are you struggling with issues such as How can we generate more sales? How can we be more successful with our marketing? How can we cope with a changing market? Ayd's dynamic and stimulating workshops are designed to push you outside your comfort zone and boost the flow of creative ideas which could transformative for your organisation. This is "not to be missed" session. For further information about Ayd please see www.aydinstone.com
We are grateful once again to Richard Mayne for hosting this event at the Westerwood Hotel.
Roger Harrop and Paul McGee are both highly rated 10/10 international presenters and experts in their fields.
- Roger was CEO of a FTSE 100 high tech company and is a celebrated international speaker. Please click here for further details.
- Paul, the "SUMO" man (Shut Up and Move On) is one of the most sought after speakers on the topic of effective management of change and "moving on". His latest book on "Self Confidence"was top of WH Smith's best sellers list for three months in 2010. Please click here for further details.

We are all sharing in SIBL’s celebration and today's total programme is offered to members as a “thank you” for your continued support. Nor is there a charge for any guests who you may invite to attend the conference but do not want to take part in the golf or the leisure activities. The event offers us the opportunity us to experience the Westerwood Hotel and Leisure Resort facilities and the hotel are putting together leisure programmes based on:
a) For golfers: A round to celebrate the opening of five new holes
on the Seve Biesteros designed championship golf course and
b) For non-golfers - Access to the leisure and spa facilities offered by
the health club (more on that later).
c) A supper will be available at 8pm for all attendees of the golf/leisure
activities.
The 4 person team Texas Scramble is an excellent opportunity to engage in your own “corporate hospitality” by bringing your own business contacts to a SIBL event where everything is being organised for you.
All you would have to do would be to turn up and enjoy! Not a bad deal!!!
Potential Sponsorship
If you would care to respond to the request for 4 man teams for the Texas scramble then a contribution of £60 per head plus vat for each of your three “other” team members would be much appreciated to cover the cost of the golf, prizes and supper before departure. If you would care to consider sponsoring this special event further then £500 plus vat sponsorship would entitle you to four reserved places at the workshops, plus (your) display boards in the conference room (and also have your logo prominently displayed on the Delegates Pack) plus an entry for a 4 man golf team at the Texas scramble. (All inclusive of refreshments and two main meals for 4 people). Do let me know if this offer would be of interest to you and we can discuss this unique opportunity
The Venue and Directions
Our thanks go to Richard Mayne, General Manager of the Westerwood Hotel for hosting this special meeting.
For directions and more information please see Westerwood Hotel
Booking Places

"Achieving Customer Service Excellence" |
Jan Roberts |
Health in Mind
Edinburgh |
This is a "not to be missed" opportunity to gear your organisation up for optimum performance. With the significant changes in recent times in the marketplace many organisations have switched their focus away from new business opportunities to "battening down the hatches" sometimes accompanied by internal "reorganisations" with the resultant dip in staff energy and motivation. It has therefore become all too easy to take your eye off some of the fundamentals of good business practice. This workshop is designed to boost confidence and business performance through a thorough and practical review of customer service strategies and their implementation as it applies to both external and internal customers.
We are extremely fortunate to have Jan Roberts to run this masterclass for members. Jan has earned a great reputation as an expert facilitator in this area having had a number of years relevant experience in top companies including Unilever, Diageo and HSBC.
As numbers are strictly limited an early confirmation of your participation would be appreciated. To book a space or for more information please contact Drew Pryde on 07967 429364 or email drew.pryde@sibl.org.uk
The venue is Health in Mind, 40 Shandwick Place, Edinburgh EH2 4RT. Our thanks to Gwen McCreath for hosting this event. The office is a 10 minute walk from Haymarket Station and a map/directions can be found at

Please note the following meeting dates in your diary prior to the summer break and please check the web site for details of speakers and venues: 11 May, 1 June, 29 June.
